Luther Childs Crowell (1840-1903) was the Wellfleet inventor of the square-bottomed paper bag machine as well as the holder of over 290 other patents. Come celebrate this prolific inventor and long-time Wellfleet resident, by lighting our iconic Uncle Tim’s Bridge in this annual event.
Schedule
3:00 PM: Start arriving at the museum to fold or decorate your Crowell-inspired square bottom paper bag. This activity is open to families and individuals of all ages. WHS&M will provide the materials. Volunteers will be available to help with construction.
4:00 PM: Enjoy hot cocoa while learning about Luther Crowell, Timothy Daniels, and the history of Uncle Tim’s Bridge.
4:30 PM: Depart the museum for a quiet, lighted walk to Uncle Tim’s Bridge. Arrange the lantern/bags. Enjoy the lights, celebrate our Wellfleet community, and share our hopes for the New Year.
5:30 PM: Program ends.
This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available behind Town Hall and at the base of Bank Street. Donations are always welcome.
